Chesterfield, VA(October 31, 2011) -- Sam Hunt's 2011 racing season is cut short after suffering a shoulder injury during the 5th game of his senior football season.
Hunt, a senior at James River High School, is team captain and starting quarterback for the Rapids. Early in the game against Midlothian High School, Hunt sustained a hit to his right shoulder running an option play. Sam knew the hit was painful, but didn't realize he had a temporary dislocation and a torn labrum to his throwing shoulder. Sam finished the game, favoring the injured shoulder, which James River lost in a shootout 42-33.

Early Start to Off-Season Won't Slow Hunt Down for 2012
During the game and despite the season ending injury, Hunt threw for 285 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for 55 yards and another score. Following the game an MRI revealed the injury and Hunt was told his senior season was over. Sam had surgery to correct the injured shoulder the following day.
The 12 to 16 week recovery is already in full swing with physical therapy 3 times per week. His priorities have now been set. Fully recover from the injury, keep his grades up, and focus on his 2012 racing plans and sponsorship efforts.
